Ban The Grand National Due To Two Horses Death

As you are probably aware these have been the headlines today. ‘Ban the Grand National’ Two Horses Die’.

I bet the rest of the world as normal are having a right laugh at our expense again. ‘Those crazy English people’ Host the most famous race in the world, and then call for a ban the very next day.

They even liken the race to bull fighting and blame ‘Mick Fitzgerald’s commentary for not pointing out ‘they are not jumping that fence because there’s a ‘DEAD’ horse on the other side.

I won’t even comment on this because we already suffer politicians that are not in the real world, and bankers that are just darn right greedy.

Look I will probably get into big trouble posting this, but have we all gone mad over the last few years. We already stand outside the pub’s if we want to smoke, next we will have to stand outside if we want to have a drink! Sooner or later we must stand up and have or say. Next do we ban gambling, horse racing or even chocolate.

Or just call me ‘Carrot’ plant me in the ground and tell me what to do.

I can imagine the grief and upset of connections who have suffered the loss of two great horses and my thoughts go out to you. There are many people that will understand, the pure joy of watching a jumper enjoy their fences and the friendship you have had.

What are they suggesting we going to do put all these horses in a pen and not let them run, or jump. The biggest benefactors are already in the sport, I don’t see many others contributing towards injured jockeys or retired horses, but they are quick to give their views.

Maybe we should suggest banning the car, and putting a few of these people on the horses, now that would be a sight.

Just to let you know we are not all sheep and have our own opinions of a truly majestic sport.

I must finish, because I’m spent most of my time toning down this post. Yes I’m sure the hate mail will follow, but have an opinion and it’s MINE.

A fabulous race and yes everything within reason should be done to avoid tragic events but the medias lack of scope when writing headlines these days amazes me. The race for me will be remembered for the great feat of the winning trainer and the amazing spectacle.”

How utterly moronic to conclude that asking for an end to a race where it is almost certain that a horse will die, equates with a desire to ban all racing. I’m quite prepared to accept that horses are bred to run and jump and probably enjoy it. I wouldn’t necessarily seek to end racing but would like to see the GN either banned or drastically redesigned so as to prevent these entirely unnecessary deaths. In a civilised world I can see absolutely no justification for it’s continuation in it’s current form. An appreciation of the majesty of the event simply doesn’t cut it in my view. Go and get your vicarious thrills some other way-perhaps you might like to take up some thrilling sport where it’s you that runs the risk of being maimed or killed? Even then at least you’ll have the ability to examine the risks and make an informed decision as to whether you want to participate. I haven’t seen a consent form for the horses yet.
